Your expectations of taking part i.e. why have you joined the programme: Collaboration is huge part of my role as Social Value Manager - by working together rather than individually we can achieve so much more. Therefore hoping to develop my ability to do this, gain contacts and utilse proven tools and techniques in order to better fulfill my role.

Chris Herrington

Level of experience: Over thirty years experience within the public sector, working with military, blue light, local authorities and central government. During the last five years, I have been working with public sector organisations and the private sector (teir 1 construction contractors). This has been very interesting to see how collaboration works, or in some cases doesn't, between a public sector organisation and a private sector organisation within the built environment.
Short biog: Thirty four years working within the public sector, ten years with the MOD, seventeen years with the civil service, and seven years with a local authority. A broad customer focused career that has required collaboration in some shape or form to achieve objectives. I have been working for Scape for just over five years. I wanted to attend this course to get a deeper understanding of collaboration within the construction sector and in addition, share this knowledge with colleagues within my organisation and with my clients and our built environment delivery contractors.
Current role: Senior Client Relationship Manager. Working as a trusted interface between our public sector clients and our private sector built environment teir 1 contractors that occupy our frameworks.

Darren Wallace

Level of experience: Over 20yrs experience working in a mix of private architectural practices and 4no Main contractors (in a design orientated role)
Short biog: During his career, he's been involved in virtually all aspects of a project from inception through to completion along with over circa 10yrs being either a primary Lead or Director for an architectural practice. I.e. Full P&L responsibility.
The last 3yrs have been with Stepnell in a Senior DM role, with a focus being primarily around bringing a greater level of design/compliance and customer development to the team.

Your expectations of taking part i.e. why have you joined the programme: My expectations are open given it’s a new course through the CE Midlands.
However, I’d expect it to be interactive/informative based on the subject content but also very relevant to today’s challenges.
I’ve joined the programme to support both Stepnell in their drive to promote collaborative working, but also for my own personal development & interest in collaborative working.
The industry remains very fragmented across many levels, but the more people embrace the collective approach the more attractive the profession becomes to existing and emerging new talent

Short biog: I worked on site in the construction industry between university years as a labourer. That was between 2010 and 2013. I then took a trainee estimator role in 2015 and did a HNC in Building Studies at University of Wolverhampton on a part time basis. I have worked my way up to an estimator now, so I have just over 6 years experience as an estimator and 11 years experience in the construction industry.

Your expectations of taking part i.e. why have you joined the programme: I would like to further understand areas of the construction industry and take them into my job as an estimator. The more knowledge I can gain the more I will understand while putting a tender together and can relay this information to colleagues.

Short biog: A Project Manager with experience of delivering projects in the UK across a variety of sectors. Kubra has worked in a number of roles as Project Manager, Contract Administrator and Employers Agent on both large and small complex projects with numerous high profile clients during her time in the industry which has enabled her to develop a strong client care focus. Level of experience: I am the technical coordinator at Scape supporting Procure/Business Developent/Venture so I have a wide range of knowledge and skills however because of the breadth of cover required I struggle to retain the granular detail required for the next role
Short biog: I collate and interpret data such as Project trackers/KPI's/Social Value/Commitments. I also create Contract templatews within DocuSign and train the partners on how to use and manage them.

Short biog: My role is to help Magna ensure that the new development schemes we undertake are built to the relevant Fire / Building Standards and other statutory regulations. I’m also involved in overseeing our programme of retrospective corrective works to our post year 2000 properties to ensure that these were correctly constructed and where issues exist, we undertake the appropriate work to overcome these issues for the benefit and safety of our customers. I’m based within our Asset Team, but am working closely with the Development Team. I’m a Chartered Building Surveyor with 20+ years’ experience in the Building Industry having worked for the Local Authority, the Police Authority and in private practice as a Building Surveyor.

Your expectations of taking part i.e. why have you joined the programme: Looking forward to broadening my understanding of collaborative working. Being based in a large organisation, this is particularly important where we are dealing with both a large work force but also external contractors and consultants. Hoping to be able to encourage others to consider to take this course in future years.

Joe O’Boyle

Level of experience: 15+ years Quantity Surveying on Civil Engineering & Building projects ranging from £100k - £12m in value using JCT & NEC Forms of Contract.
Short biog: Having started in the construction industry in 2004, I spent several years progressing through various roles, covering site engienering and site management, before joining the commercial department in the organisation. I then spent five years attending University where I gradiated in 2010 with a BSc (Hons) at 2:1 level. SInce then, I have worked on various CIvil Engineering and Building projects, including on water and sewerage treatment works, fire stations, schools and universities. The most interesting project I've been involved in is the Catesby Tunnel project, where we are engaged to transform a 2.7km long Victorian railway tunnel into an aerodynamic testing facility.
Current role: Senior Quantity Surveyor on a £11.5m project for the University of Worcester.

Your expectations of taking part i.e. why have you joined the programme: Having been involved in a unique project (Catesby Tunnel) from 2017 which is still ongoing, we took a truly collaborative approach with our Client, often providing multiple options for each challenge encountered, providing detailed risk and opportunity analyses for their consideration and direction as the project went along. Now taking this experience gained and working with the UoW who are another open and collaborative client, I am interested in looking at different approaches in problem solving to arrive at satisfactory results for all parties.

Short biog: Started in the industry at 16 as a trades person. Progressed in to more office based duties and have been quantity surveying for the last 7 years. Recently promoted to Managing Quantity Surveyor at CQS Solutions, who are a small quantity surveying practise. The majority of our works is for small to medium sized sub-contractors, from tendering through to final accounts. As a company we are looking to move more towards Main Contractors and PQS works.

Your expectations of taking part i.e. why have you joined the programme: I am hoping to develop my leadership skills and learn some new practical and tangible ideas to implement in my new role, now I am looking after a team of surveyors. Particular interested in the Leadership and Team Management, Lean and Continuous Improvement, Smart Construction and Quality and Compliance Modules

Short biog: I am an Architectural Technologist working at Pick Everard, I graduated from Nottingham Trent Univeristy in July 2017. I have a previous experience on a Passivhaus leisure centre scheme, which links with my interest to sustainable design. I am also very keen on Biophilic design and have done some research into this topic in the past and was also my disertation topic for my final year project.

Your expectations of taking part i.e. why have you joined the programme: I am hoping to gain a lot more skills and knowledge within the industry and the stages of projects and how projects can be made more efficient in the future. I am also looking forward to meeting and getting to know like minded people or are also interested in learning about this way of working. Covid has shown us that the way we work now is changing and I believe that the way projects run will also need to adapt in the future. I am always wanting to learn and gain new knowledge and experience which benefits my role, which is why I also have completed a Women In Leadership course this year.
